Dietary cholesterol

Intake model: one reported food record, food date unconfirmed. References: man aged 19–30. How to read the references.

No change indicated. Crossing label DV alone does not establish a problem; measured lipid and personal risk context unreported.

Linked eating record; usual intake and clinical status unestablished · Reviewed 2026-10-11

Intake confidence: Moderate for food model; body status unassessed. Quantity confidence: Chicken edible weight estimated; whole yogurt tub confirmed. Body status: Unassessed.

No RDA, AI or toxicological UL is established for dietary cholesterol. Its 300 mg label Daily Value is a labeling reference, not an individual clinical ceiling. Food sources and the overall pattern matter.

Food contributions and uncertainty

Values are available for 13 of 13 recorded foods. 1 contribution(s) use an incomplete recipe or comparator. Product identity and portion assumptions still limit accuracy.

The saved portion/recipe scenarios span 266–398 mg. This is a sensitivity range, not a confidence interval; uncertain food composition and unreported foods can fall outside it.

Food cholesterol is not a blood test

Cholesterol supports membranes and hormone production, and the body synthesizes it. No dietary RDA, AI or UL is established. The 300 mg label DV is not a personal threshold. Food estimates cannot establish blood lipids or cardiovascular risk. FDA label reference

The American Heart Association's dietary-cholesterol advisory emphasizes the overall food pattern rather than an isolated gram target. It does not imply that all amounts have no effect. Animal foods often vary in saturated fat and other characteristics alongside cholesterol, making food associations hard to separate. AHA advisory,2019/2020

Human evidence is mixed by outcome

A 2015 synthesis included 19 intervention trials with 632 participants alongside cohort studies. Trials found a modest average rise in LDL with higher dietary cholesterol, but studies were heterogeneous and did not settle long-term cardiovascular disease risk. This supports rejecting both “dietary cholesterol never affects blood cholesterol” and a claim that one day's food figure predicts an event. Berger et al.,2015

The 2026 dyslipidemia guideline continues to emphasize dietary pattern and health behavior in cardiovascular prevention. Its clinical decisions use measured lipids and individual risk, not this site's food-label percentage. ACC/AHA 2026 guideline

What the latest log contains

The model for my food log estimates 309 mg, with about 266–398 mg across saved portion scenarios. Estimated chicken supplies 263 mg, the sardine label 30 mg and provisional whole-tub yogurt 16 mg. Chicken edible weight is the largest uncertainty. The eating date is unconfirmed; report recorded October 10, 2026.

Attention: No change indicated solely because the estimate crosses the label's 300 mg. Blood lipid and family-history context are unreported. If a repeated dietary change or measured lipid finding later warrants action, review the whole pattern, saturated-fat sources and suitable food substitutions rather than diagnosing from this subtotal.

Practical choice

Fish and chicken have useful nutritional roles and can remain in the preferred pattern. Eggs may be included as a food choice, but should be logged if eaten and need not be added on top of all existing proteins. A tolerable smaller chicken serving may reduce both calories and cholesterol if meal size is a problem; there is no established need to make that change from the current cholesterol figure alone.
