Food contributions and uncertainty

Values are available for 13 of 13 recorded foods. 1 contribution(s) use an incomplete recipe or comparator. Product identity and portion assumptions still limit accuracy.

The saved portion/recipe scenarios span 5.2–5.6 mg. This is a sensitivity range, not a confidence interval; uncertain food composition and unreported foods can fall outside it.

Role and the uncertainty behind an AI

Manganese is a cofactor for enzymes involved in metabolism, antioxidant defense and bone formation. The male adult US AI is 2.3 mg/day and UL is 11 mg/day from all sources. An AI is used because an RDA could not be established; a value below it would not diagnose inadequacy. Manganese status is difficult to assess, and many claimed disease benefits lack confirming human trials. NIH manganese fact sheet

What the current estimate contains

The latest total is about 5.41 mg, with selected-portion sensitivity 5.23–5.60 mg. Rice contributes about 1.34 mg, four bananas 1.27 mg, raspberries 1.14 mg, walnuts 0.51 mg and almonds 0.33 mg. These values mainly come from generic food composition.

The attention flag is No change indicated. These foods already provide manganese in the saved estimate, so a manganese-directed addition solves no demonstrated intake problem. The estimate is not a tissue measurement or an independent assurance about every exposure; drinking water and occupational sources are not quantified by this food log.

What the evidence does not justify

An enzyme's need for manganese does not imply that more manganese strengthens tendons or improves glucose control. NIH distinguishes animal findings from a lack of clinical trials establishing a manganese supplementation role in diabetes. The current research review therefore makes no recovery, antiaging or diabetes-treatment claim. NIH manganese health evidence

Manganese toxicity is particularly associated with unusual exposures, and impaired liver function changes elimination. Those contexts deserve their own assessment; they should not be inferred from eating raspberries and rice. NIH manganese excess-intake discussion

For this diet, keeping varied foods is sufficient as the practical decision. If tea or another new product becomes a daily habit, record it normally; do not buy it specifically to push manganese above the existing estimate.
