Vitamin B1 thiamin

Intake model: one reported food record, food date unconfirmed. References: man aged 19–30. How to read the references.

No change indicated. Current estimate is near the RDA with distributed food sources; generic yogurt composition and portion assumptions limit precision.

Linked eating record; usual intake and clinical status unestablished · Reviewed 2026-10-10

Food contributions and uncertainty

Values are available for 13 of 13 recorded foods. 1 contribution(s) use an incomplete recipe or comparator. Product identity and portion assumptions still limit accuracy.

The saved portion/recipe scenarios span 1.3–1.5 mg. This is a sensitivity range, not a confidence interval; uncertain food composition and unreported foods can fall outside it.

Role and intake references

Thiamin, or B1, participates in the metabolism of carbohydrate and other fuels. The adult male RDA is 1.2 mg daily. There is no established UL; that reflects limited evidence for defining a threshold rather than proof that unlimited intake is useful or safe. NIH thiamin.

What the food record establishes

Attention: No change indicated. The available estimate is approximately 1.37 mg, with contributions spread across yogurt, chicken, bananas, avocado, orange and other foods. The largest single estimate, about 0.44 mg from yogurt, uses generic composition and the confirmed whole tub. The record supports plausible coverage, with limited precision and no established usual intake. Because the total is close to the recommendation, modest food or portion changes could affect the comparison.

Thiamin is not a reason to force the beans I disliked. If later records consistently look low, whole grains, a palatable legume portion or another ordinary source could be tested. Enriched and unenriched rice differ, so the exact package should determine whether enrichment is counted. NIH food sources.

Energy metabolism does not mean extra energy

The vitamin helps use fuel; it supplies no calories itself. This mechanistic role is not evidence that a high-dose B1 supplement improves a sufficiently nourished runner's speed, recovery or concentration. No such supplement is reported as taken here. This edition does not attempt a comprehensive review of therapeutic thiamin derivatives.

Severe undernutrition, alcohol dependence and absorption problems can change the clinical question. Those conditions have not been established by this food record. NIH risk groups. For my current choices, confirming portions and following the repeatable eating pattern are more useful than adding a B-complex pill because its label mentions energy.
